Timber Protection

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. Once a tree has been cut down another can be planted in the same spot. Timber can be utilized in very many applications, and this makes it more valuable.

Protection of wooden structure and products is a must if you want to keep the good looks in place. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The water particles in the timber increase the rotting and the insects bore through the wood. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.

Another wood treating method that is fast being accepted is the use of copper metal. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. The difference between this method and the other copper-based methods is that the copper is used as a metal rather than a dissolved material. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. Unlike other methods of treatment this method is not corrosive. Extensive research over a period of 10 years has proven the effectiveness of this science as one of the best wood preservation methods.
